"Three for a Girl"
In the original magpie poem, this line represented the prediction of the sex of a coming child. Abandoning the stereotypical representation of sex, three delicate feathers are used here.

According to the superstition of the magpie poem, dating back to late-1700s Britain, the number of magpie birds seen tells if one will have bad or good fortune: 
One for sorrow
